General Processing on Graphics Processing Units for Industrial Systems
Lukačovič, Martin ; Mašek, Jan (referee) ; Krkoš, Radko (advisor)
The thesis deals with the abilities of graphics processors for GPGPU. It contains historical solutions to contemporary design. There are also described graphics processors from the largest manufacturers of this time, their focus and goals in the future. For algorithms implementation using GPU, there are necessary APIs that offer various possibilities of execution. In addition to the CPU and GPU universal heterogeneous computing, there are alternatives such as FPGA and DSP so it is necessary to consider the price and energy cost. Part of the work is devoted to the communication possibilities with the hardware and advanced memory approaches. For demonstrating parallel computing an implementation of matrix multiplication in OpenCL was realized.
Processing units of last generation processors and their utilization
Šlenker, Samuel ; Pavlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Balík, Miroslav (advisor)
The aim of this thesis was to study and subsequently process the differences between the older instruction sets and newer instruction sets, to specify the benefits of the individual extensions, to compare the way of computations of the individual SIMD processing units and to compare the implementation of these processing units in Intel and AMD companies. Part of this work are two theoretical introductions to laboratory tasks.
Immunomodulatory and differentiation properties of MSCs in a mouse model of the injured cornea and retina
Kössl, Jan ; Holáň, Vladimír (advisor) ; Vištejnová, Lucie (referee) ; Heissigerová, Jarmila (referee)
Stem cells, in general, represent the potential for treating many diseases and disorders that are currently difficult to treat or the therapy has many side effects. One of the stem cells widely investigated these days are mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MSCs have the considerable immunomodulatory and regenerative potential for treating degenerative disorders and severe damage to various parts of the eye or other organs. Likewise, their application could serve as supportive therapy in corneal transplantation and other eye inflammatory conditions. In this study of immunomodulatory properties of MSCs, we have focused mainly on their ability to differentiate into cells of different tissue types (in our case, corneal epithelium and retina), their production of immunomodulatory molecules in the inflammatory environment, their ability to migrate to the site of the injury, and their local anti-inflammatory, regenerative, and anti-apoptotic effects. In addition, we tested the therapeutic effects of MSCs in a mouse model of ocular surface injury and a model of retinal degeneration. Finally, we investigated the mechanism of this effect in in vitro models with explants of these tissues. Limbal stem cells (LSCs) are already used to treat severe corneal damage as limbal stem cell deficiency. However, this...
Acidophilous cyanobacteria and algae
Macholdová, Markéta ; Nedbalová, Linda (advisor) ; Medová, Hana (referee)
Due to natural processes and human activity extremely acidic habitats, whose pH does not exceed 3.0, are formed on Earth. These are especially areas affected by the acid mine drainage (AMD) and of volcanic activity. The biodiversity of these habitats is greatly reduced, but there are microorganisms that are very well adapted to such extreme conditions. These organisms are termed as acidophilic. Cyanobacteria and algae are the only primary producers at extremely acidic sites and thus play a crucial role in these ecosystems. Although they must overcome several problems that are associated with such an environment (excess of H+ ions, increased concentrations of heavy metals), they developed a range of ecophysiological adaptations and life strategies that allow them to inhabit it. These are mainly the ultrastructural changes in the cell membranes, special metabolic processes and the production of special substances and enzymes. Acidophilic species are present across almost all taxonomic groups of cyanobacteria and algae. Interest in acidophilic organisms has increased in recent decades due to their potential use in biotechnology. Knowledge of their taxonomy, ecology and ecophysiology can also be used in paleobiology and exobiology.
The Evolution of the Global Microchip Market
Srba, Lukáš Martin ; Bolotov, Ilya (advisor) ; Čajka, Radek (referee)
This thesis aims to explain the evolution and transformation of the microchip industry. It focuses on the changes and prediction of the future state including its causes and consequences. The analysis starts on the general description of the market and continues through its subjects ending on relationships between them. This serves as a source of information to the prediction in the final part of the thesis. In the beginning the products, which are taken into consideration in this work (namely CPUs, GPUs and APUs), are described. Following this, there is an analysis of the competition environment that defines a structure of the market upon which further work is based. (Three levels; the manufacturer of photolithographic machines, makers of the chips and their designers and OEM and aftermarket subjects.) The penultimate part defines the barriers to entry to this market and three categories are drawn up: economic, technical and geoeconomic, which are applied to every level of the market. Thus all prerequisites to a successful prediction are satisfied. In the last part of the thesis the prognosis is made and defined, along with its assumptions and limitations. In the concluding part of this work the consequences and results are summarized.
Trends in computer hardware
Snížek, Marko ; Vaněk, Jiří (advisor) ; Nouza, Jaroslav (referee)
Bachelor's thesis is focused on creating an overview of current trends, technologies and future development for the selected type of personal computer hardware. The theoretical part is devoted to introduce the issues connected with processors, graphics cards and SSDs. The practical part contains an overview of new and current technologies and trends. Also includes observing the benefits of new technologies or solutions, based on testing of selected components and outline future development.

Computations on Graphics Cards
SVOBODA, Aleš
Purpose of this work is to show possibility of using graphics card not just for 3d graphics but also for computations which were for a long time just a domain of CPU. In the first part we are looking at what graphics card is as well as APIs used for their programming. Second part shows us OpenCL API on an example. Last part is measurement of performance between CPU and GPU.
Nové ideje v technologiích pro desulfataci
Ďurďová, Libuše
Among technologies for desulphatation of AMD and wastes waters there is present the whole scale of technological applications of physical, chemical and microbiological processes. Among positive research results there are important patents of IEE TUO Ostrava with ecologically advantageous methods of precipitation of sulphates from AMD. Some new ideas on barriers for treatment of AMD waters presented can be applied for waste water cleaning and also for in situ improvement of ground water chemistry at vicinity of wellfield with sulphate concentration increasing above 300-400 mg.l-1.
